It's always a thrill for fans of the team and students of the game alike when a superstar in the making shows what he's got. Josh Johnston, the Houston Astros 22-year-old shortstop, put himself in the spotlight last week making him the clear-cut choice for National League Player of the Week honors.
He ripped 15 hits in 27 at-bats, compiling a .556 average with 2 home runs and 13 RBIs.
So far this year in 53 games Johnston is hitting .370 with 4 home runs, 36 RBIs and 30 runs scored. |

Veteran Albert Pujols had a great week at the plate for the Mariners to capture the majority of votes for Player of the Week in the American League.
The 34-year-old Seattle first baseman built a .538 average on the strength of 14 hits in 26 at-bats, 2 home runs and 7 RBIs.
This year Pujols is batting .349 with 15 home runs. He has scored 63 runs and driven in 58. |
 | Saturday, June 28th, 2014: Cincinnati Loses Bourjos
Medical officials from the Cincinnati Reds reported that the club's 27-year-old center fielder, Peter Bourjos, suffered a damaged meniscus in yesterday's matchup against the Minnesota Twins while making a defensive play. Bourjos is expected to miss 2 weeks of action.
This year Bourjos is hitting .276, produced 4 RBIs and 1 home runs, scored 6 times and gotten on base at a .288 rate. |
