Saturday, July 4th, 1981: The Atlanta Braves will have to make do without Jim Kern for 4-5 months. He suffered a torn labrum while throwing a pitch in the game today against the Houston Astros. His teammates, understandably, were upset about losing the closer. "That's a tough break for him," one of them said. "But this team is resilient. We will just fill in until he gets back."
This year his season stats show Kern has 19 saves in 31 relief appearances with a 0-6 mark and 3.81 ERA. | |
