Breaking News Tuesday, September 1st, 2015: Mendoza Best CAL Starter The California League named the winner of the Pitcher of the Month Award. It went to Juan Mendoza of Modesto Nuts, who impressed the voters with a glittering 6-0 record in August. The Modesto star hurler made 8 starts, allowed 32 hits in 56.1 innings, struck out 56 and had a 1.44 ERA. So far this year Mendoza has 11 wins and 4 losses and a 2.03 ERA. Tuesday, August 25th, 2015: Hughes Fashions Shutout Against Modesto The Visalia Rawhide posted a 14-0 shutout over Modesto today on the strength of a strong performance by Dave Hughes. The Rawhide pitcher held the Nuts to 2 hits while walking 2 and fanning 6 in the route-going win. This season Hughes has compiled a 20-2 record with a 1.77 ERA in 26 starts. Monday, August 17th, 2015: Red-Hot Rampage Reaps CAL Reward It can be difficult for a young player to step out of the shadows and assert himself in the California League, but last week Jim Chandler of the Modesto Nuts reminded everyone just why he's here as he threw up numbers that made him an easy selection for Player of the Week. Chandler rocked opposing pitching for a .417 average (10-24), 2 home runs and 6 RBIs to come away with the award. Thus far in 2015 Chandler has hit .292 with 13 home runs, 64 RBIs and scored 61 runs.
