Monday, August 17th, 2015: American League Announces #1 Player
There's nothing like being in the prime of your baseball career -- and playing like it. Just ask Duane Middaugh, the Tampa Bay first baseman, who swung a sweet bat all week to not only aid his team, but also pick up the American League Player of the Week honors.

Middaugh piled up 11 hits in 21 at-bats, 3 home runs and 7 RBIs while hitting .524.

This year Middaugh is batting .237 with 28 home runs and 75 RBIs. In 118 games he has scored 64 times.
Saturday, August 15th, 2015: Foster Smacks 5 Hits for Yankees
Wally Foster told the press after his 5-hit day, "Every batter wants to have a quality at-bat every time he steps up to the plate. He wants to hit the ball hard."

Well, that's just what Foster of the New York (A) Yankees did against the Tampa Bay Rays. He went to the plate 5 times and 5 times he delivered base hits, much to the chagrin of the Rays, who suffered a 7-1 defeat.

"Not much that I can say," offered the losing manager, "he just hammered the heck out of us."

W. Foster doubled in the 1st, hit an RBI double in the 2nd, doubled in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 6th and hit a solo-shot off H. Rodriguez in the 9th.

This year Foster is hitting .371 with 8 home runs.
Friday, July 24th, 2015: Maholm Gives Tampa Bay Goose Eggs
The Rays manager was philosophical after his team was shut out by the Seattle Mariners 7-0.

"It was just one of those games, shake it off and do better next time," he said.

Paul Maholm blanked them on 3 hits with no walks and 10 strikeouts.

"I kept them off balance. I could tell a lot of them were late on fastballs. They were fouling them off. Once you see that, it sets them up for other pitches," Maholm said.

"I set them up pretty good, where if they chased one breaking ball, they were going to chase another one."

In 2015 thus far, Maholm has tossed 153.2 innings in 23 starts, fanned 128 batters, walked 33 and put up a 3.16 ERA with 10 wins and 8 losses.
