Connecticut Defenders right fielder Iván Macías, at the top of his game all last week, was a consensus choice today for the Eastern League Player of the Week.
He victimized opposing pitchers for a .407 batting average on 11 hits in 27 at-bats, piling up 5 home runs, 8 RBIs and 8 runs scored.
Macías is batting .275 with 27 home runs and 78 RBIs this season.

What did Iván Macías eat for breakfast prior to his game against New Hampshire? Whatever it was, it provided some surprising power as the Connecticut right fielder smacked three balls up and out of the park at Thomas J. Dodd Memorial Stadium. His power surge sparked the Defenders to a 9-6 victory over the Fisher Cats.
He told BNN reporters, "When they throw it in your wheelhouse, you got a shot at a homer. I got three shots today and nailed them all."
On his 3-homer day he went 3 for 4, scored 3 times, drove in 3 and put his name in the league record book.
I. Macías hit a solo-shot off C. Detherage in the 2nd, hit a solo-shot off C. Detherage in the 4th, flied out in the 5th, hit a solo-shot off J. Unknown in the 7th and walked in the 9th.
In his season totals Macías has 25 home runs and a .271 batting average.

New Britain pitcher Ethan Barnes put on a show today and walked away with a 10-0 shutout victory over the Connecticut Defenders, throttling them on 5 hits. He just cruised through their lineup, fanning 11 and walking 3 in a strong outing.
"He was very efficient and he hit his spots," his manager said. "He stayed down in the zone and stayed away from the middle of the plate."
In 15 starts this year Barnes has posted 6 wins while suffering 2 losses. He has pitched 99.1 innings, allowed 89 hits, struck out 117 and has a 2.54 ERA.
